What happens when the weakest hunter turned Shadow Monarch crosses paths with the world's number 1 hunter? One of the most memorable fights in Solo Leveling: Sung Jin-Woo vs. Thomas Andre. A clash that will go down in the series' history, and which finally answers the question: just how far does Jin-Woo's power reach? A complete breakdown.
The context: the International Guild Conference
The duel takes place during the International Guild Conference arc, a summit bringing together the world's greatest hunter powers. This is where accumulated tensions explode, and where Jin-Woo finds himself facing an opponent of a completely different caliber than dungeon monsters.
Thomas Andre, the world's number 1
Thomas Andre is no ordinary person: Guild Master of the Scavenger Guild and a National-level hunter ranked first in the world, he embodies the absolute peak of human power. On paper, no hunter should be able to challenge him. To understand this extraordinary rank, see our guide on hunter ranks.
The spark: vengeance for Yoo Jinho
This is not a fight without a cause. It all starts with a tragedy: Hwang Dongsoo, a high-ranking member of the Scavenger Guild, kidnaps and tortures Yoo Jinho, Jin-Woo's loyal companion. Seething with rage, Jin-Woo decides to hold the entire guild accountable. Thomas Andre, as its master, then steps up to protect one of his own — and triggers the clash.
The act of defiance that became iconic
Before the fight, Thomas Andre, confident in his superiority, offers Jin-Woo a way out: acknowledge his wrongs and submit to save his life. Jin-Woo's response has become legendary among fans: not a word, just a provocative gesture of defiance directed at the world's number 1. A scene that summarizes his entire character: no fear, no hesitation.
The outcome: a display of power
The result is definitive. Far from a close fight, Jin-Woo outrageously dominates the most powerful hunter in the world and sends him to the hospital. The message is clear to the international scene: the once-mocked Korean hunter has surpassed even the peak of humanity. Follow his entire ascent in the Sung Jin-Woo file.
The consequences of the fight
This victory has major repercussions. It seals the fate of Hwang Dongsoo, whom Jin-Woo eventually kills and turns into the shadow Greed. It also changes Thomas Andre's perspective: impressed and grateful that Jin-Woo spared his men, he will later offer him one of the most powerful weapons in the world. A theme detailed in our article on Sung Jin-Woo's weapons.
