The webtoon (manhwa): 13 volumes, ~200 chapters
The webtoon Solo Leveling, illustrated by REDICE studio, is finished. It contains 179 chapters in the main story, plus an epilogue of about twenty chapters, for a total of approximately 200 chapters, collected into 13 volumes. It is the most popular version, known for its spectacular action panels.
The light novel: the original work by Chugong
Originally, Solo Leveling is a web novel (light novel) written by Chugong, published starting in 2016. He established the entire universe, the System, and the psychology of Sung Jin-Woo before the webtoon adaptation. The novel is also finished. The anime: 2 seasons (and it's not over yet)
As for the anime, produced by A-1 Pictures, there are currently 2 seasons:
- Season 1 — January to March 2024 (12 episodes).
- Season 2 “Arise from the Shadow” — January to March 2025.
Season 2 adapts the story up to about chapter 110. This means there are still nearly 90 chapters to adapt: fans estimate that it will take at least 4 seasons to cover the entire webtoon. Season 3 is confirmed — for the date, see our article on when season 3 will be released.
Is the story finished?
Yes and no: the webtoon and light novel are finished (so you can read the end right now), but the anime is still ongoing and has only adapted a portion of the story. If you don't want to wait for the next seasons, the webtoon is the logical next step.
