Behind the famous System that transforms Sung Jin-Woo into the Shadow Monarch lies a mastermind: the Architect, whose real name is Kandiaru. Creator, manipulator, fanatic of the Monarchs… then betrayed and destroyed. Here is the complete story of the most mysterious entity in Solo Leveling — the one who literally programmed the hero's destiny.

Who is the Architect (Kandiaru)?
Kandiaru, known as the Architect, is neither an ordinary hunter nor a monster. Originally, he was an inhabitant of the magic world, an ambitious sorcerer who studied magic with an obsessive goal: to surpass Yogumunt and steal his title as the Monarch of Transfiguration. An immoderate ambition that would lead him onto Ashborn's path.
The creator of the System
This is his capital role: Kandiaru is the creator of the System, the magical program that levels up Jin-Woo like in a video game. After the Monarchs began their assault on the human world, Kandiaru approached Ashborn, the Shadow Monarch, and offered him a deal: to help him find a human vessel worthy of his power, in exchange for a chance at immortality. Ashborn accepted, and Kandiaru built the System to accelerate the search. To understand everything about this mechanism, read our System guide.
Kandiaru's Commandments
The Architect's mark can be seen as early as the double dungeon of the Cartenon Temple: the deadly statues and the famous "Kandiaru's Commandments" are his trials, designed to test and select a candidate. It is this trap that would cost the lives of many hunters and make Jin-Woo the "Player." Relive this founding event via the Cartenon Temple and the testimony of Song Chi-Yul, one of the survivors.
A Monarch fanatic
Kandiaru has a quasi-religious cult following for the Monarchs: he worships them like gods. It is this loyalty that explains a troubling moment in the series: during the fight against Baruka, a mysterious "glitch" interrupts a revelation — it is the Architect who censors the truth, so that Jin-Woo does not learn the true nature of the gates and his role in the grand plan too early.
Ashborn's betrayal
The final twist is cruel for Kandiaru. The initial deal intended for Jin-Woo to become a simple vessel — a body that Ashborn would possess. But when Jin-Woo reaches level 100, Ashborn changes plans without warning: instead of possessing the hero, he offers his power as a gift and locks Kandiaru out of the System. The Architect, who believed he was indispensable, realizes he has been betrayed.
The fall of the Architect
Mad with rage for having been sacrificed by the one he served, Kandiaru attempts to regain control. In vain: facing a Jin-Woo who has become the true Shadow Monarch, he no longer has a chance. The Architect is cut to pieces, ending the existence of the one who had, nevertheless, orchestrated everything. Follow the hero's rise in the Sung Jin-Woo file.
