Bellion is one of the most impressive — and mysterious — characters in Solo Leveling. As the first shadow ever created by the Shadow Monarch and Grand Marshal of the Shadow Army, he reigns at the pinnacle of Sung Jin-Woo’s soldier hierarchy. Discover who Bellion truly is, where he comes from, the extent of his power, and the role he plays in the universe's final war.
Bellion, who is he?
Bellion is the supreme commander of the Shadow Army, the armed branch of the Shadow Monarch. While soldiers like Beru or Igris hold the title of Marshal, Bellion is the only one to hold that of Grand Marshal — a unique rank that places him above all other shadows. Calm, disciplined, and possessing absolute loyalty, he embodies the elite among the Shadow Army.
Origin: Ashborn’s very first shadow
Before serving Sung Jin-Woo, Bellion was the first shadow extracted by Ashborn, the previous Shadow Monarch. Forged alongside his master through countless battles, he became the oldest and most powerful of the shadow soldiers. This seniority explains his natural authority: the other shadows instinctively recognize him as their leader. When Ashborn’s power passes to Jin-Woo, the young hunter inherits this entire legacy — Bellion included.
The Grand Marshal of the Shadow Army
The hierarchy of the shadows follows precise ranks, from simple soldiers to Marshals. Bellion stands even higher: Grand Marshal, a level reserved for him alone. Practically speaking, this makes him the military leader of the entire army — the one who coordinates the other generals, including Beru, Igris, or Tank. Many fans consider him one of the most powerful shadows, on par with Beru, and his status makes him a central figure as soon as he appears on the scene.
Bellion’s powers
In keeping with his rank, Bellion’s power is colossal. A master of close-quarters combat, he wields a formidable blade with relentless precision and deploys an overwhelming shadow aura. His strength, speed, and experience accumulated over centuries make him an opponent few enemies could hope to face. Even more than his raw power, it is his cool-headed strategic mind that impresses: Bellion fights with the rigor of a true commander.
Appearance: a horned demonic knight
Visually, Bellion makes an impression. With an imposing silhouette, horns, dark armor, and an intimidating presence, he evokes a demonic knight straight out of the darkness. This iconic design, both noble and menacing, has made him a fan favorite in the universe — and a top choice for illustrations, figurines, and goodies.
Bellion in the service of Sung Jin-Woo
When Sung Jin-Woo inherits the powers of the Shadow Monarch, he must prove he is the worthy successor to Ashborn. Once this legitimacy is recognized, Bellion vows the same unwavering loyalty to him as he did his former master. He then becomes Jin-Woo’s most powerful commander and leads the Shadow Army during the decisive clashes against the Monarchs, those entities that threaten all of humanity.
Anime or manhwa: where to see Bellion?
If you only follow the anime, it’s normal not to know Bellion yet: he appears in the later arcs of the manhwa and light novel, long after the events adapted in the first seasons. To discover him, the best way is to dive into the webtoon — you will see the full rise of the Shadow Army and the spectacular entrance of its Grand Marshal.
