Above the dreaded S-Rank exists an elite so rare they can be counted on the fingers of one hand: the National-level hunters. Their power is such that it is considered a strategic asset for an entire nation. Here is an overview of the most powerful human beings in Solo Leveling.
What is a National-level hunter?
The National rank is positioned above S-Rank. This is not just an additional tier: such a hunter can, single-handedly, carry the weight of an entire army. Nations treat them as state assets, sometimes even as living weapons. To understand the full scale, read the hunter ranks.
The five National hunters
There are five National-level hunters worldwide, each one a true superpower in their own right:
- Thomas Andre (United States) — ranked 1st in the world
- Liu Zhigang (China)
- Christopher Reed (United States)
- Siddharth Bachchan (India) — ranked 4th in the world
- and the fifth, completing this very exclusive circle.
Nationals and Sovereigns' Vessels
A fascinating detail: several of these National hunters are also vessels for the Sovereigns, which explains part of their superhuman power. The link between the pinnacle of human hierarchy and cosmic entities is therefore closer than it seems — see the Sovereigns and Monarchs file.
What about Sung Jin-Woo in all this?
Officially an S-Rank hunter, Sung Jin-Woo in reality far exceeds even the National hunters: as the Shadow Sovereign, he plays in a category that is no longer human. The Nationals represent the ceiling of humanity; Jin-Woo has shattered it. Discover all Solo Leveling characters.
